2017 Memorial Day Program


The Neil S. Lewison Post #439 of the American Legion in Melrose has set the following schedule for the 2017 Memorial Day program on Monday, May 29.

8:15 a.m.: Legionnaires muster at Melrose Legion Hall

8:30-8:45 a.m.: All marching units assemble in front of the Melrose-Mindoro Junior High School

9:15 a.m.: Program at Melrose Cemetery (the firing squad will split after this with part going to North Bend and South Beaver Creek Cemeteries and part going to Cataract Cemetery)

10:20 a.m.: Program at North Bend Cemetery

10:30 a.m.: Program at Cataract Cemetery

11 a.m.: Program at South Beaver Creek Cemetery

The music and song selections will be presented by the Melrose-Mindoro High School students under the direction of Mr. Eric Hanson and Mrs. Sharon Pfaff. In closing, the Legion Firing Squad will salute the dead.

A potluck lunch will be open to the public and held at the Melrose Legion Hall at 12 p.m. The May calendar drawing will be held after the potluck.

Board of Review


For the Village of Melrose


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Review for the Village of Melrose of Jackson County shall hold its first meeting on Thursday, the 25th day of May, 2017 at 6:00 PM and last until closing (minimum of 2 hours).  This will be held at the Melrose Village Hall.


Be advised of the following requirements to appear before the Board of Review and procedural requirements if appearing before the Board:


No person shall be allowed to appear before the Board of Review, to testify to the Board by

telephone or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if the person has refused a reasonable written request by certified mail of the Assessor to view such property.

After the first meeting of the Board of Review and before the Board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the Board of Review may contact, or provide information to a member of the Board about the person’s objection except at a session of the Board.

No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board by telephone or contest the amount of the assessment unless, at least 48 hours before the first meeting of the Board or at least 48 hours before the objection is heard if the objection is allowed because the person has been granted a waiver of the 48-hour notice of an intent to file a written objection by appearing before the Board during the first two hours of the meeting and showing good cause for failure to meet the 48-hour notice requirement and files a written objection, that the person provides to the clerk of the Board of Review notice as to whether the person will ask for removal of any Board members and, if so, which member will be removed and the person’s reasonable estimate of the length of time that the hearing will take.

When appearing before the Board of Review, the person shall specify, in writing, the person’s estimate of the value of the land and of the improvements that are the subject of the person’s objection and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.

No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board or by telephone or object to a valuation; if that valuation was made by the Assessor or the Objector using the income method of valuation; unless the person supplies the Assessor all the information about income and expenses, as specified in the Assessor’s manual under Sec. 73 .03 (2a) of Wis. Statutes, that the Assessor requests. The Village of Melrose has an ordinance for the confidentiality of information about income and expenses that is provided to the Assessor under this paragraph which provides exceptions for persons using information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or the duties of their office or by order of a court. The information that is provided under this paragraph, unless a court determined that it is inaccurate, is not subject to the right of inspection and copying under Sec. 19.3 5 (1) of Wis. Statutes.

The Board shall hear upon oath, by telephone, all ill or disabled persons who present to the Board a letter from a physician, surgeon or osteopath that confirms their illness or disability. No other persons may testify by telephone.

Notice of Open Book



The Assessment Roll will be open for inspection at the Melrose Village Hall

on THURSDAY May 4, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.  The assessor will be present for inspection of the roll and to consult with interested taxpayers.

Objection forms requesting a Board of Review hearing will be available.  Completed objection forms are required to be filed with the Village Clerk at least 48 hours before the Board of Review.

Spring Clean Up Days – May 23 & 24

Village of Melrose


The Village will continue its tradition of holding Spring Clean-up this year.  The following procedures apply:

  1. SPRING Clean-up days will be held on May 23 & 24….two days only!
  2. Large items (couches/furniture/electronics) must be scheduled for pickup and paid for in advance with the Clerk. See prices listed below!
  3. Other Items that will not fit in a garbage bag, may be left on the curb for pick-up.
  4. All items small enough to fit in a garbage bag, must be placed in garbage bags or they will not be picked up. Use one of the options below:
    1. Option 1: Place items in Yellow Village garbage bags.
    2. Option 2: See the Clerk and purchase a $3.00 tag that may be placed on a 33 gallon black plastic bag.  (You must purchase your own 33 gallon black plastic bags.)

NOTE:  Only Yellow Garbage bags or those 33 gallon black bags with a Village tag on it will be picked up.
